Attorney Villy Lopman lists most significant shortcomings in Estonian tax system
Villy Lopman, attorney at RASK Attorneys-at-Law, commented on acute issues inherent to the Estonian tax system in Äripäev on 24 October. “The Ministry of Finance advertises our tax system as simple and equal. In reality, this means only that the state can hastily play with taxes,” wrote Villy in the article.
Among other issues, Villy outlines Estonia’s obsolete tax laws, and points out the need to decide on a ceiling for social tax, and take action against the misuse of single-owner private limited companies.
“Today, the state’s behaviour as a tax authority is like a fashion sportsperson who, instead of developing his/her abilities, is more interested in acquiring modern equipment,” commented Villy to Äripäev, and gave the example of numerous law amendments under the guise of fighting tax fraud.
