RASK represents Prime Minister of Estonia in court action with largest daily newspaper.

Case

RASK successfully represented Andrus Ansip, the Prime Minister of Estonia, in a court action against Õhtuleht. The dispute was based on the incorrect quoting of the Prime Minister in the article “Prime Minister: phone calls of politicians and businessmen are being tapped” published on 29 May 2012 in Õhtuleht.

The courts satisfied the claims of Andrus Ansip in full, demanding that Õhtuleht refute the incorrect quote and publish a correction in the paper as well as on the website of the newspaper.

This was a landmark court decision regarding the application of the principle of equivalence. The courts satisfied the claim by Andrus Ansip to refute the incorrect quote and publish a correction in exactly the same way it was originally published, i.e. in the same section as a full-page correction notice with a photograph. Before this, it was customary practice for newspapers to publish the correction notice in a smaller font in a less popular section without any illustrative material.
