Advising an entrepreneur on obtaining approval for using conventional fertilisers in limited management zone of Matsalu National Park
Case
The new
conservation rules established in 2023 for Matsalu National Park prohibit the
use of biocides, plant protection products and conventional agricultural
fertilisers in the limited management zone surrounding the national park
without first obtaining consent from the Environmental Board. Consent is only
required for fertilisers and plant protection products that are not approved
for use in organic agriculture.
This
requirement means that entrepreneurs who have engaged in conventional
agriculture within the Matsalu National Park for decades must now seek separate
consent from the Environmental Board to continue their current operations.
RASK advised a client on the application process for this consent. As a result of RASK’s guidance, the Environmental Board approved the client’s request to use biocides, plant protection products and fertilisers associated with conventional agriculture.
